The Tumblr Grumblr

If every comic book, action figure, and video game on Earth suddenly disappeared, we geeks would still partake in our favorite pastime: complaining.  Here's to finding something wrong with the world everyday, and to wondering why nobody calls me to help fix it . . .

Who’s Your Daddy?

Last week, the two questions that dominated the headlines were: Who will be the Presidential frontrunner for the Democratic Party? and Who is the real father of Anna Nicole Smith’s baby?  While each story represents a completely different aspect of American culture, I cannot help but recognize a few similarities: each story stars two frontrunners (Barack and Hilary, and Stern and Birkhead, respectively) with a potentially endless cast of B-list hopefuls. Both stories involve mudslinging, however irrelevant and inappropriate.  Finally, most importantly, both stories threaten the future of a helpless child — Daniellelynn Smith, of course, and America (230 years is young compared to the other countries in the world).  If only “the media” could consolidate these stories into one uber-headline, we’d have so much more airtime and newspaper page space to praise Jennifer Hudson.  Meanwhile, weeks after Smith’s death and a year and a half until the election, there’s no end in sight for either story, and only one parental figure seems to be winning these cases: Father friggin’ Time.  Right over his knee, we are.
